Our Story

In 2007, Stephen Cunningham's life took an unexpected turn when he was laid off from his job. Instead of seeing this as a setback, he recognized it as a unique opportunity to pursue his passion and create something meaningful. With a strong desire to provide for his son and build a better future, he took the leap and founded Hunter Compressor and Engine, LLC. He ventured into the natural gas parts industry, driven by the belief and experiences that high-quality components and expert solutions could significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of the natural gas industry. He wanted to ensure that both corporate and small business clients had access to the best parts available, so I began sourcing and supplying essential components for compressors and engines. This journey has always been about more than just building a business; it’s about fulfilling his dream of helping others. He is committed to providing tailored solutions and exceptional service, fostering strong relationships with our clients, and contributing to a sustainable future in energy. As we reflect on our beginnings, we remain dedicated to this vision. At Hunter Compressor and Engine LLC, we strive to deliver quality parts and services that meet the needs of our clients while nurturing a community built on trust and support. Thank you for being part of our journey!

Stephen Cunningham

The owner of Hunter Compressor & Engine has been an integral part of the compressor industry since 1983, amassing over 40 years of expertise in both high-speed and low-speed compressor units. After gaining valuable experience at several companies, he founded his own business in 2007, driven by a passion for innovation and customer service.

Outside of work, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and participating in traditional outdoor events, including car shows.

Christian Cunningham

As the son of the owner, I play a vital role in day-to-day operations at Hunter Compressor & Engine, focusing on business development and international growth. My responsibilities include supporting both domestic and international initiatives to enhance the company's reach and effectiveness.

Currently, I am working remotely while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management at the University of Texas at Dallas, which is recognized as a top business school globally.

In addition to my professional endeavors, I have a passion for golfing, working out, and genuinely enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come with business development.

Moreover, I am a prior service Army Infantry member, which has instilled in me a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. My military experience has greatly influenced my approach to business, emphasizing resilience and strategic thinking. My goal is to leverage my education and experience to drive the company success into the future.

Howard Smith

As Stephen Cunningham’s brother, I’ve recently returned to the company after some time in South Dakota. I’ve been working in the natural gas and oil industry for nearly as long as Stephen, the owner. Like him, I have a passion for cars and a strong work ethic. I wouldn’t trade the life I’ve built, especially supporting my daughters, for anything.

Becca Jennings

Hi, I’m Becca! I’ve been in sales for quite some time, and I joined the natural gas industry and this company in 2023. Stephen has provided a great work environment that feels lively, friendly, and family-oriented. I’m a big animal lover, especially because of my country roots and all the dogs and cats I’ve had over the years.

Johnny

I’ve been in inside and outside sales for as long as Steve and Gator. I’m nearing retirement from my hard work, and while I’m not sure what’s next—maybe enjoying more time on the couch—I’ve really learned how the company operates and how much the people here want to help each other. I’ve been dedicated to getting customers on board to help Stephen grow the company even further.
